Hi, I’m Janet Rico Everett and this is my blog. I live in south Arkansas with my husband, our son, and our Cairn Terrier, Ruby. I began this blog in as a way for me to stay connected to people. For 15 years, I taught full-time, but after I was diagnosed with Lupus, I only taught as an adjunct English instructor at the same community college where my husband teaches Biology. I thought all classroom teaching would come to an end in March, 2018 when I developed ITP, an autoimmune disease that affects my blood platelets. After teaching a couple courses online, I’m back teaching dual credit English courses at local high schools.
As a Christian wife and mother, I believe maintaining a satisfying marriage and parenting children well are the two hardest jobs for a woman. Also, as a college instructor, I observed many wives and mothers returning to college and trying to maintain homework, a home, and a happy family, not necessarily in that order. To this end, I write for women who want to make strong relationships with their husbands, children, parents, and God.
Before you get the idea that I’m all emotion without much mettle, I also write about the practical needs of wives and mothers. I wasn’t prepared for day-to-day married life. I didn’t know how to cook. I didn’t know how to clean house. I didn’t know how to decorate. I didn’t even know how to pre-treat laundry stains! If you went into marriage and/or motherhood with some “holes” in your learning like I did, then I want to be there for you.
I used to think my personality was totally type B, but one of my friends swears that I’m a “reluctant A”. I am frightfully hard on myself, but when it comes to others, I am laid back, easy going and don’t get in a tizzy about most things.
